About TIE

My name is Mikael,
and I am the founder of The Intuitive Editor.

Not only can I proof and polish your words to remove errors that could tarnish how professional you look, but I can also see into the heart of your book, or the core message, to ensure it fully shows up as your heart and soul intended.

Thanks to my "tapped-in" intuitive abilities, I feel exactly what your story needs to shine in its fullness.

I also help you maintain your voice while ensuring your message is crystal clear and error-free to have the impact you most desire to have. Plus, I provide thorough feedback and suggestions to take your writing & stories to the next level.

I’d be tickled to support you at whatever stage of editing your book needs, whether that’s an overall look at your book’s story structure in a developmental edit, an exacting copyedit, or a final proofread before hitting “publish” or sending your manuscript to an agent.

Your book deserves the care and precision of an exceptional edit, so it shines in its polished form & has the impact your soul always intended.

From developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading, I can work with you at any stage of your finished manuscript to clarify your text and bring your story to life.

The Intuitive Editor’s specialty is line editing, which goes line by line to polish your text to enhance your message, improve flow and pacing, and have more impact through your words.

  • Kevin B.

“I just reviewed and accepted a vast majority of Mikael’s edits. I’m blown away by the detail she went after with this. After three proofs from the other company, she found hundreds of items needing to be cleaned up. Her eye for detail was amazing. This is excellent work!”

  • Chris V.

“A former colleague and friend, Mikael Short valiantly proofed and polished my manuscript.”

  • Carter R.

“I’m so pleased with the corrections you have made to my manuscript! Thank you for the nice notes you included as well—they have provided a much-needed boost of confidence. And thank you for taking the additional time to educate me along the way.”

  • Aliza R.

“Mikael is an all-rounder editor who skillfully incorporates technical knowledge with intuitive tools to ensure your book editing process goes smoothly. She’s also one of the loveliest people I know.”

  • Suzette R.

“Mikael has proven to be creative, generous, and kind, and I knew she was the right person to trust with works precious to me. She told me how my writing made her feel, and that helped me stay motivated. I also learned a lot about grammar I didn’t quite understand before and that was wildly helpful. She showed me how to use my own intuition to figure out where ‘proper grammar’ was necessary in poetry and where I could do as I wished for creative reasons.”

  • Michael P.

“Mikael is the best copy editor I've met. We use her on our biggest projects, and I've worked with her for a decade.”

  • Sarah F.

“Mikael has a sharp editorial eye, a big heart, and a great sense of humor. I trust her so much that I gave her my own book for copyediting. She did a fantastic job catching inconsistencies and grammar errors while making me laugh and feel safe.”

  • Innana R.

“Thank you for the incredible amount of care and attention you put into reviewing my book. Your meticulous edits and insights have been invaluable, and I truly appreciate the time and effort you’ve dedicated to this process. It’s been so helpful to have your expertise guiding me through.”

  • A.L. Knorr

“Mikael’s enthusiasm and attention to detail are wonderful! I’m very grateful for her help to smooth away the rough edges in sentence structure so that the story is even more enjoyable for readers. I’d recommend her to anyone needing a sharp set of eyes to make their story shine!”

  • Valerie D.

“I call her a Renaissance woman because she can do everything. Her care in wanting your final product and its messaging to be perfect and powerful is something I am truly grateful for.”

  • Trinette H.

“Mikael is very talented, self-sufficient, and a pleasure to work with. She’s both creative & analytical. She’s one of those people you want to hold on to for as long as possible because she’s so motivated.”

And you know something? I get how scary and intimidating it is to have your book edited.

It is petrifying! All the while you’re wondering, “Will they love it, will they hate it, and oh my gosh, am I a terrible writer?”

I know exactly what that’s like. The first time I saw my pages bleed red, I cried… and then my managing editor showed me the ropes by indicating what I was doing well and how I could tighten everything up. My entire perspective on writing and editing changed in that moment.

Which is what I will do for you, dear one.

I want you to know upfront that I’ll care for your book just as much as you do.

Often, I get so invested in my authors and their books that I strive to create the most loving and informative process possible.

Along with edits, feedback, and suggestions to make your language more clean, clear, and powerful, I’ll also tell you what I love, what’s working (or not), offer writing advice, and I’ll even pop in some fun GIFs or songs if I feel so inspired.

Hopefully, despite all the red marks, the edited manuscript won’t be so intimidating when you get it back.

My goal is to see you and your book shine & succeed in its most polished and inspired form.

As The Intuitive Editor…

Nothing would thrill me more than to help make your book shine the way you sought before you ever began putting pen to paper. Pairing my technical editorial experience of 15+ years with my psychic gifts, I see straight into the heart of your book while and also tend to the nitty-gritty details that hinder your reader’s experience.

I can see the soul within your book, so I can feel what you mean to say, so it’s clearer and more impactful. Reading between the lines becomes quite literal, and ideas to smooth out your narrative jump out between the double-spaced lines I edit from.

You have put in so much work, and I know how much it means to publish a good story that touches people and leaves a mark. I will help to ensure your book does just that.
