On Rest: As a Projector

What immediately resonated with me once I discovered my Human Design? Quite a few things, but this was the first that really struck home…

As a Projector, my energetic strategy for aligned decisions is to wait for the invitation and to trust my authority—my inner decision-maker—to decide on my course of action, particularly around big decisions or long-term life choices, such as career, where to live, who my partner is, etc. Doing so will allow me to make decisions that are supported by my energy.

Not only am I designed to wait for invitations, but I'm also a non-sacral being—my sacral center lacks any definition or consistency. No gates are active in there! This doesn't mean I don't create life force energy on my own as some Human Design experts might suggest (um, everyone has energy—it's about learning to work with the energy you have!), but that I need to learn to trust my body's energetic and rest cycles.

Like other undefined sacral types, I have a somewhat "limited" resource when it comes to internal wells of energy compared to sacral types, but that doesn't mean I can't borrow that life-force energy from them (hey, Generators and Mani-Gens!)—or simply rest to recuperate some of it!

Non-sacral beings may need more rest than the defined sacral centers around them… or they may find themselves falling face-first into burnout or exhaustion because they don't know when to stop. I know I'm guilty of that!

All energy types require proper rest; however, society was not built to sustain non-energy types with undefined sacral centers: Projectors, Manifestors, and Reflectors.

The go-go-go, put your head down, and do the work 9-to-5 mentality comes from the Generator and Manifesting Generator aura types that have run the world for so long.

Who runs the world… not undefined sacrals, that's for sure! But we may create initiatives, guide, or reflect what the world most needs. Each type has its gifts, after all! We are all meant to do our part, so no energy type is better or more desirable than another. We need all types!

Projectors are one of the newer energy types on the planet, only arriving in the last couple of hundred years. That hustle and grind is not the way of the Projector or other non-sacral energy types. We are here to help usher in a new age of being. To show that the hustle lifestyle is neither sustainable nor desirable for everyone.

That rest can be just as important and impactful as doing.

Growing up, I thought I was such an oddball in my family due to my sleep patterns. Little did I know that almost everyone around me, aside from my brother, had defined sacral centers!

I was always the one sleeping in on the weekends. Everyone else would have this magical ability to wake up before 8 a.m. just fine. Not this one. 🙋‍♀️

Unable to control myself, I would often fall asleep in class, particularly in the class after lunch. Not to mention the fact that I was the biggest night owl of the bunch, too. Funnily enough, this is all indicated in another part of my Human Design chart, but that’s a Human Design aspect for another day! ;)

The funniest comment I ever got from a teacher who caught me sleeping was: “Mikael, if you don’t wake up, I’m going to decorate you like a Christmas tree.” 🎄 Thank you, Mr. Geography Teacher, with a bullhorn for his voice box!

Even when I started working a 9-to-5, at times I’d have to fight off the ZZZ monster after arriving (that morning routine to get to work would wipe me out first) or mid-afternoon. Guess my Projector aura wanted to be done early, ha!

Yet I still got my work done, often quicker than expected, especially once my hyper focus mode kicked in. But of course, I couldn’t let those in the office know that, because then the powers that be would decide I needed more work.

I didn't need more work when I finished what was assigned. I needed rest. Honestly, a lot of other people do, too!

This is one of the reasons I won't work/price by the hour… I can get as much done in 3-4 hours as many people get done in 8 or more. A blessing that comes from the efficiency and understanding of systems that the Projector energy type can master easily!

The gift of efficiency to knock things out quickly, and get back to resting so our energy can recuperate and be ready for the next aligned invitation. ;)

So, the validation I felt when I finally understood why I needed so much rest was palpable once I knew my Human Design. I think I remember crying!

I'm more comfortable in my own skin knowing that I naturally operate in this way—not to use it as an excuse, but to use this awareness to make empowered decisions about how I structure my day and use my energy.

And really… Being able to do that feels like a huge win.

So, how about you? Have you learned your energy type yet?

Is your sacral center defined? Have you already started listening to when your body needs rest? Or could you be listening to your body and energy more
